CAR DEMOLITION DERBY RULES
(Christian, Macoupin and Montgomery Counties)
The car demolition derby shall be open to men and women with a valid Illinois ID 16 and older. All drivers will adhere to all rules and regulations.
Towing and transporting demolition derby cards to and from other demo locations must meet highway safety codes. The Christian County Fair Association, Macoupin County Fair Association and Montgomery County Fair Association will not be held liable.
1. Driver’s Entry: Drivers must be sixteen (16) years of age or older. Drivers must furnish his/her own car. The following vehicles will not be allowed: Jeep, Trucks (Rancheros/El Caminos), Convertibles, Carryalls, Hurst, Limos, Imperials. NO IMPERIAL SUB FRAMES ALLOWED.
2. Driver’s Regulations: Driver may go forward or backward. No deliberate drive door hits. If a driver becomes inactive for one minute, the car/driver will be disqualified. NO SANDBAGGING! If you are sandbagging, the race will stop and an X will be painted on your car. Whoever takes you out will receive $25 and will advance to the feature event. This will be to the promoter’s discretion and will be discussed at the driver’s meeting. NO TEAM DRIVING! You will not be allowed to team drive even against a sandbagger. Cars must show visible damage or be moved when hit or be disqualified. The driver must remain in his/her car with helmet on until his/her car has been removed from the track or unless an official tells you different. HELMET MUST REMAIN ON AT ALL TIMES! If your helmet keeps coming off during the race, you will be disqualified. Make sure the helmet strap is fastened. It is mandatory that all drivers and pit crews attend a meeting prior to the race.
3. Entry Fees: Car/Driver entry fee shall be $25.00 or Car/Driver/1 Pit Person entry fee shall be $30.00. (Pit person must be present at time of sign-in.) Pit passes shall be $15.00 per person (Macoupin County Fairgrounds $20.00.) NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 16 WILL BE PERMITTED ENTRY INTO THE PITS OR ON THE TRACK! Entries will be accepted upon to one (1) hour prior to start of the race.
4. Car Preparation: SCREWS ARE NOT ALLOWED! PRE-DENTING AND TUCKING ARE ACCEPTED! Slogans, advertising, and/or painting can be placed anywhere on the cars except the front doors and right above the front doors on the roof. DRIVER NUMBER MUST BE ON THE FRONT DOORS AND ON A 12” X 18” ROOF SIGN! DRIVER NAME MUST BE ABOVE THE FRONT DOOR ON ROOF LARGE AND LEGIBLE TO READ! The choice of number is yours. If that number has already been used, a letter must be included with your number. NO PROFANITY! The following must be removed before entering the pit area: all glass, chrome, pot metal, lights, carpet, headliners, back seats, fiberglass and/or anything flammable. DO NOT BREAK GLASS DOWN IN WINDOWS! Trunks must be empty of all debris, spare tires, rims, parts, etc. CAR MUST BE CLEAN OF ALL GLASS!
5. Radiators and Fans: Radiators and fans may be removed. You are not permitted to relocate them.
6. Batteries: Batteries must be in a secure location and be covered with a floor mat, inner tube, or anything that is nonflammable. Batteries must be securely fastened down.
7. Front and Back Bumpers: The front and back bumper may be trimmed. You are allowed to bolt a shock bumper to cars with shock bumpers. Bumpers may be connected with a 2” or smaller diameter pipe. Light welding on shocks on bumpers is allowed. Retaining chains can’t be any bigger than 3/8” from shock mounts to bumper. You are allowed to weld bumper mounts. The height of the bumper can’t be more than 22” from the bottom of the bumper to the ground front and back on fresh cars.
8. Gas Tanks: Gas tanks must be properly secured and placed in the back seat area. NO MORE THAN 5 GALLONS OF GASOLINE IS ALLOWED! No movement of the gas tanks will be allowed. BUNGEE CORDS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO SECURE GAS TANKS! All tanks must have secure caps and be leak proof. Lines must be leak proof. The stock gas tanks in cars must be removed or have holes punched in them and be washed out. PLASTIC GAS TANKS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED!
9. Tires: 12-ply forklift tires will be allowed. DO NOT EXCEED THIS! For those who don’t have forklift tires, the following will be allowed: tire inside of tire or field tire inside of tire. ALL TIRES MUST HAVE AIR, NO LIQUID FILLED TIRES, NO TIRES SCREWED TO RIMS, NO SPLIT RIMS, NO PADDLE TIRES, NO TRACTOR TREADS. Valve stem protectors are allowed.
10. Doors: All doors and wagon gates must be chained, wired or welded shut. All doors except wagon gates may be welded solid. Wagon gates may be welded 1” leaving 6”. Driver doors can have one bar attached 6” past back door and 6” past front door. The car door may be welded with a 2” strap or less.
11. Suspension: The following will not be allowed: special bumpers, extra weights, weld on shocks, trailer hitches, special lifts, blocks, shackles. Airlifts and air shocks must be deflated. Stiff suspension cars must have give and bounce.
12. Leaf Spring Specifications: Converting coil springs to leafs will be allowed provided that the following rules are met: CARS THAT CAN BE CONVERTED MUST BE 80 OR NEWER BODY STYLES (NO EXCEPTIONS), the springs must have at a minimum a 2” stagger and no more than 4 clamps per side, a maximum of 6 springs per side (car springs only). Springs can be no more than 2 ½” wide and the longest spring can be no longer than 5”.
13. Leaf Spring Mounting: Front spring must use factory suspension hole (trailer arm hole). The reinforcement of this hole must not exceed 3” of center of this hold and must be done on outside of frame only, using metal no thicker than the frame. ANY REINFORCEMENT FOUND ON THE INSIDE OF THE FRAME WILL BE AN AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATION! Reinforcement is not allowed for leaf spring hanging. Washers can’t be bigger than 4”. The outside bracket can’t be longer than 8” total. The only welding allowed is to mount the brackets. This conversion must be as close as possible to OEM style mounting. IF THE OFFICIALS DETERMINE THAT YOU WENT BEYOND HOW FACTORY LEAF SPRINGS ARE MOUNTED ON FACTORY LEAF CARS, YOU WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED AND NO REFUND OF ENTRY FEE!
14. Engines and Transmissions: Any engine or transmission may be used as long as it is mounted in stock position. On a V block engine, the front spark plug must be even or in front of the upper ball joint. On an Inline engine, #2 spark plug must be even or in front of upper ball joint. MOTOR MOUNTS MAY BE WELDED! MOTORS MAY BE CHAINED! Transmission coolers are allowed. Any drive shaft will be allowed. Holes in firewall and floor pain must be covered. KEEP SAFETY IN MIND WHEN INSTALLING! IF OFFICIALS RULE YOUR INSTALLATION UNSAFE, YOU WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED!
15. Rear Ends: Changing of rear ends is allowed, but it must be a car’s rear end. TRUCK OR FLOATER REAR ENDS ARE NOW ALLOWED! GM rear ends must not exceed 12-bolt rear end cover. The welding of rear ends is allowed. Factory five lug pattern is allowed. Factory OEM leaf packs do not add leafs.
16. Hoods, Trunks, Fenders: If the hoods are removed, all belts must be cut or the fan blade removed. The hoods must have two holes cut in them for fire extinguishers. TWO FIRES YOU ARE OUT UNLESS IT IS A FUEL FIRE THEN ONE FIRE YOU ARE OUT! These holes can’t be over the carburetor. If you use a hood, you can use up to 6 all thread no larger than ¾ with washers no bigger than 6” outside diameter. Only two washers allowed to go through the frame and must be even with or behind the frame. Washers must be even with or behind the radiator. NO WELDING HOODS! ALL HOODS MUST BE OPENED FOR INSPECTION! A chain or nine wire may be used from the hood to the bumper. On the trunk you may use 4 all thread no larger than ¾ with washers no bigger than 6” diameter. Only two washers allowed to go through the frame. If you use this method the only other bolts you may use are: SAE thread no larger than 3/8 with washers no bigger than 1” outside diameter; 20 around header holes, fire holes, 10 bolts around fenders, 10 bolts around trunk lid. You may use mounting bolts for gas tank, batter, shifter, etc. NO WELDING EXCEPT DOORS AND SAFETY BARS IF YOU USE THIS METHOD! If a different method is used you may weld 1” leaving 6”, you can bolt 1 bolt leaving 6” with bolts no larger than SAE thread 3/8 with washers no bigger than 1” outside diameter. Any other fastener will be 1” leaving 6” (if you weld your trunk you can’t bolt, if you bolt trunk, you can’t weld).
17. Frames: WELDING ON FRAMES WILL BE ALLOWED FROM THE A-ARM FORWARD! TOP SEAM ONLY! NO ADDED METAL AND NO CONCRETE! Reinforcing the frame is not allowed. Notching of the frame is allowed. You may patch on used cars or cars with rusted frames. PATCHES MAY NOT EXCEED 10” LONG X 4” WIDE! MAXIMUM THICKNESS IS ¼”! ONLY 4 PATCHES ALLOWED ON ENTIRE FRAME! NO METAL IN FRAME—YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM—AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATION! Frame damage must be obvious to officials. You are allowed to run a chain from frame to frame in the back.
18. Body Mount Bolts: Body mount rubbers are allowed to be removed. They may be replaced with up to 1” spacers. You are not allowed to add more holes for bolts.
19. Inside of Car: WAGONS MUST HAVE THE SPARE TIRE FLAP REMOVED OR A HOLE CUT THAT IS BIG ENOUGH TO SEE THROUGH! All glass and debris must be removed from inside of car. One pipe that is no bigger than 5” may be welded behind the driver’s seat, making sure to leave a few inches for some give in the seat. You may build a cage from the driver’s side to the passenger’s side doors. No more than three bars going across: 1 in the dash area and 2 in the back seat area. These may be welded or bolted. THESE BARS CAN’T GO TO FRAME! DO NOT CONNECT THE BODY MOUNT BOLTS! Material for cages can’t exceed 10” in width. NO REINFORCEMENTS EXCEPT AS STATED IN THESE RULES!
20. Safety and Regulations: Safety belts and DOT approved helmets are required. All helmets must be securely fastened. You are required to wear long pants and shirt. Radiator overflow hoses that are shooting steam or water toward other cars or officials will be disqualified. Cars must have at least one bar attached to center of windshield area to prevent the hood from coming in on the driver. Header pipes aimed toward the front of the car will be disqualified. No alcoholic beverages or drugs will be allowed in the pit area or track. Any violation will result in immediate disqualification. Intoxicated drivers and pit crew will be disqualified and asked to leave the area. If anything is changed on your car after inspection to make your car illegal, you will be automatically disqualified and will not receive a refund of entry. If you have a hole in your firewall, it must be covered with something nonflammable.
21. MANAGEMENT DOES HAVE THE RIGHT TO DISQUALIFY A CAR/DRIVER AT ANY TIME! Any person in pit or track area causing trouble and not obeying the rules will be asked to leave the area immediately. (We can and will have police escort you out and/or have you arrested.) You may also be banned from running in any future Christian/Macoupin/Montgomery County Fair events. The officials have the right to re-inspect a car at any time, including after a race. If anything is found to be illegal, you will forfeit all prizes which will then go to the next person in line. Any protest must be made within 5 minutes after heat in question, along with a $500 fee, and if any mechanical work needs to be done to prove your complaint, you will complete such work and put the car back the way it was.
22. No alcoholic beverages or drugs will be allowed in the pit area or track. Any violation will result in immediate disqualification. Any driver or pit crew member exhibiting signs of impairment or the smell of an alcoholic beverage shall be disqualified.
23. The Christian County Fair Association, the Macoupin County Fair Association and the Montgomery County Fair Association are not responsible for any injuries to drivers or pit crew.
24. The Christian County Fair Association, the Macoupin County Fair Association and the Montgomery County Fair Association are not responsible for lost or stolen articles.
25. The Christian County Fair Association, the Macoupin County Fair Association and the Montgomery County Fair Association reserve the right to make changes as necessary.

Towing and transporting of demolition derby cars to and from other demo locations must meet highway safety codes. The Christian County Fair Association, Macoupin County Fair Association or the Montgomery County Fair Association will not be held liable.
1. Driver’s Entry: Drivers must be sixteen (16) years of age or older. Drivers must furnish his/her own car. Driver and pit persons must sign waiver release of liability prior to entering the pit area or track. DRIVERS AND PIT PERSONS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND THE DRIVER’S MEETING.
2. No alcoholic beverages or drugs will be allowed in the pit area or track. Any violation will result in immediate disqualification. Any driver or pit crew member exhibiting signs of impairment or the smell of al alcoholic beverage shall be disqualified.
3. Entry Fees: Car/Driver entry fee shall be $25.00 or Car/Driver/1 Pit Person entry fee shall be $30.00. (Pit person must be present at time of sign in.) Pit passes shall be $15.00 per person (Macoupin County Fairgrounds $20.00). NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF SIXTEEN (16) WILL BE PERMITTED ENTRY INTO THE PITS OR ON THE TRACK! 4. Cars shall not exceed 1083-inch wheelbase measured center of wheel to center of wheel. NO CONVERTIBLES OR PACERS! Cars shall not have engines bigger than 4- or 6-cylinders.
5. Participant Regulations: Figure 8 drivers will race a certain amount of laps per heat and must make contact on another car every other lap. Forward or backward or whatever it takes to go in a Figure 8 is required. Winners of the heat will received plaques and be out front for the feature event. No hitting of the driver’s door.
6. Compact Drivers have one (1) minute to hit another active car and no hitting opponents in the driver’s door. No sandbagging. No team driving.
7. Slogans or advertising may be put anywhere except front doors and roof. Put number on front doors and put name above on roof. Also, put a 12” x 18” sign with your number on roof (MANDATORY). NO PROFANITY!
8. Radiator, fans, transmission coolers may be removed but not relocated. Batteries must be placed in a secure position. They must not move when shaken and must be covered with something nonflammable. Bumpers and fenders may be trimmed.
9. Doors may be welded solid. NO welding wagon gates—they must be wired or chained. You may run a cage but must not go further than 3” behind front seat and across dash area—can’t be fastened to frame. Doors not welded must be wired or chained shut. If you do not run a cage you may have a bar on each front door but can’t exceed 3” in front of doors or exceed 3” past front door.
10. Cars must have at least one (1) bar attached to middle of windshield to prevent hood from coming in. This may be welded on.
11. Hoods, hatches, trunks, wagon gates must be wired or chained shut. If bolts are used, you may use a maximum of six 3/8 with washers no bigger than 6” outside diameter on hood. NONE to frame and NONE in front of radiator. On trunk, you may use a minimum of four 3/8 bolts with washers no bigger than 6” outside diameter. If you bolt, NO nine wire or chains may be used. If you nine wire or chain, you may use two 3/8 bolts on back of hood. NO WELDING ON HOODS! HOODS MUST BE OPENED FOR INSPECTION!
12. Gas Tanks: Gas tanks must be properly secured and placed in the back seat area. NO MORE THAN FIVE GALLONS OF GASOLINE IS ALLOWED! No movement of the gas tank will be allowed. Lines and connectors must be leak proof. All factory tanks allowed, but must be covered IN BACK SEAT AREA.
13. 4-PLY TIRES ONLY! No water in tires. No tires screwed to rims. No tire in side of tires.
14. The following must be removed before entering the pit area: all glass, chrome, pot metal, fiberglass, carpet, headliners, back seat, and anything that is flammable except the driver’s seat.
15. No special bumpers, extra weight, no welds on shock bumpers, no trailer hitches, no special lifts, no blocks, no shackles. Airlifts and air shocks must be deflated. MUST HAVE COMPACT BUMPER! NO FULL SIXE BUMPER ALLOWED ON COMPACT CAR!
16. Safety belt and DOT approved helmets are required. All helmets must be securely fastened. You are required to wear long pants and shirt.
17. If anything is changed on your care after inspection to make your car illegal, you will be automatically disqualified and will not receive a refund of entry.
18. No pit person is allowed in the track area.
19. MANAGEMENT DOES HAVE THE RIGHT TO DISQUALIFY A CAR/DRIVER AT ANY TIME! Any person in pit or track area causing trouble and not obeying the rules will be asked to leave the area immediately. 2008 Mini Van Demo Rules
The mini van heat
is open to people who have a valid driver’s license or valid id and 18 years of
age, if 16 or 17 years of age you must have notarized consent from both
parents/guardians present. In
the interest and fairness to all contestants the following rules and regulations
shall prevail.
1.
Driver’s Entry:
Drivers must be sixteen (16) years of age or older. Drivers must furnish
his/her own van. Vans shall be mini vans. NO full-size vans and NO flat-nosed
vans (re: Toyota) Drivers and pit persons must sign waiver and release of
liability prior to entering pit area and/or arena.

Gas tanks must be covered.
11.
Cages can go to
the middle of the vans side door. CANNOT
be hooked to the frame. A total of 3 bars going across allowed. One in dash
area, one behind seat and one in the middle of the side door. MANDATORY – on
kicker only. Driver side front.
12.
Van must have at
least one bar attached to middle of the windshield area to prevent hood from
coming in. This may
be welded on.
13.
Hoods must be
wired, chained shut, if bolts are used you may use a maximum of 6 (six) 3/8 with
washers no bigger than 6 inches outside diameter. NONE
to frame or in front of radiator.
14.
4-ply tires only.
NO water in tires,
NO tires screwed to rims, NO tire inside of tire.
15.
NO extra weight,
NO trailer hitches, NO special lifts, blocks, shackles. Air
lifts and air shocks MUST BE DEFLATED.
16.
Safety belt and
DOT approved helmet required. Long
pants and shirt mandatory.
17.
No pit persons
allowed in the arena.
18.
If any changes
are made after inspection to make your van illegal you will be disqualified and
no refund of entry. Vans
can be re-inspected at anytime.
19.
Mandatory
open hood inspection do not nine wire your hood before you get there or you will
be cutting this off.
20.
